Confused traveller in regard to liquids at airport?

i am totally confused about buying a bottle of drinking water at bkk airport after i p through screening point to take on plane, some information that i am getting says no, but at melbourne airport after you go through screening point you can buy a drink and take it on plane,if this is not allowed at bangkok airport what is the point of them selling duty free alochol if you cant take it with you
