D&D 4E IZA questions.?

Never actually played D&D =( but would like to. ANYHOW, having occasional fights between different types of monsters would probably be best as it would keep the overall repetitiveness from getting to high. The idea of an item that keeps the zombies safe from the attacks is good to. Also having larger numbers of the undead could add the numbers factor possibly making it harder to handle all at once? Sorry if this doesn't help but again I've never played so was just throwing out ideas from a writers point of view.
