ins Creed disc is unreadable?

I recently borrowed this game from a friend and before i put it in my Xbox 360 I noticed there were these circular scratches on the disc. But when it loaded up it said that the Disc was unreadable and I had to wipe it with a cloth. I checked all of my other games discs and they are all right. Has my friends Xbox done this to the disc or is there something wrong with my Xbox?
